Robot-Touch Promotes Memory Sensitization

چکیده
Research show that we are more skeptical of the machines than fellow humans. They also find reluctant to change this perception in spite possibility for increased efficiency through cooperative engagement with them. However, these findings primarily focused on algorithmic agents may not readily be attributable case robots. To fill gap, present study investigated whether background information about level autonomy a robot would have any effect its by individuals whom it made physical contact with. For purpose, conducted an experiment which robot-arm touched left arm thirty young Japanese adults (fifteen females, age: 22 ± 1.64) two trials. While was autonomous both trials, told our participants one their trials controlled human operator while other moved autonomously. We observed previous soft extended robots significantly preferred trial supposedly operated human. More importantly, identified memory sensitization respect trial-order first trial, regardless robot- or human-controlled scenario. As type nondeclarative contributes nonassociative learning, highlighted participants’ growing perceptual distance robot-touch triggered unconscious learning-component robot. The substantiate necessity in-depth and socially situated analysis new generation tools better comprehend extent (dis)advantages effectively introduce them society.

Active Touch and Robot Perception
Psychologists distinguish between active and passive touch. The latter arises when objects are brought into contact with a passive tactile surface, such as the palm of the band. Active touch describes a dynamic exploration of objects involving receptors located in both the skin (cutaneous) and the joints (kinesthetic). Research in the area of robotic tactile perception has focussed on passive t...
متن کاملMemory Migration on Next-Touch
NUMA abilities such as explicit migration of memory buffers enable flexible placement of data buffers at runtime near the tasks that actually access them. The move_pages system call may be invoked manually but it achieves limited throughput and implies a strong collaboration of the application. Indeed, the location of threads and their memory access patterns must be carefully known so as to dec...
متن کاملDeveloping Robot Motions by Simulated Touch Sensors
Touch is a very powerful but not much studied communication mean in human-robot interaction. Nonetheless many robots are not equipped with touch sensors, because it is often difficult to place such sensors over the robot surface or simply because the main task of the robot does not require them. We propose an approach that allows developing motions for a real humanoid robot by touching its 3D r...
متن کاملLatent memory for sensitization in Aplysia.
In the analysis of memory it is commonly observed that, even after a memory is apparently forgotten, its latent presence can still be revealed in a subsequent learning task. Although well established on a behavioral level, the mechanisms underlying latent memory are not well understood. To begin to explore these mechanisms, we have used Aplysia, a model system that permits the simultaneous stud...
